FIVE EASY PIECES

As we move into longer days of sunshine and rosé season, many of us are excited to roll out the barbecues and invite friends and family over to celebrate summer.  It's the perfect time to sweep away the winter cobwebs and refresh our living spaces with a new look.  Here are five easy pieces to integrate into your decor for this warm weather and beyond.

1.  The Coffee Table Tray

Time to throw out (or organize and store) all those back issues of The New Yorker that you've been waiting to read, ditch your dusty pine candle with the half-buried wick, and stack your collection of coffee table books and bibelots into a thoughtful arrangement.  West Elm's lacquer trays are a perennial favorite for a reason:  they're affordable, chic, come in a wide range of colors, and can be used for serving drinks and snacks as well as streamlining and corralling an otherwise disorganized arrangement of objects.

2.  The Bedding Update.

When the temperatures get high, nothing feels better than (newly washed) crisp cotton sheets.  Blue-and-white connotes beach-y relaxation and is a fail-safe color combination.  Even the pattern on this duvet cover from IKEA references the rocky shapes of sea glass.

3.  The Classic Summer Candle.

Scented candles effortlessly create atmosphere, and to me, nothing smells more like summer than Nest's bamboo fragrance.  It's clean and modern without being overpowering--it's the candle your friends are going to try and steal.
